Fox in the Arctic

There was a red fox and a white one around the school today. The whole North
Slope is on fox quarantine. I am not sure the fox know this or they would stay
home. So what does it mean? I think it means if you see a fox shoot it. That
is what happens here. There is supposed to be a lot of rabies here and the fox
are the carriers. I saw the white fox after it had been shot. It's pelt was
beautiful. Everyone here are really scared of fox.

Adventures to Barrow in February

Well here we are in Barrow. It is cold and businesses are not in any Preview organized
manner. The hardware store was miles away so we called a cab, which you must do
for just about anything. The road goes right beside the ocean as Barrow is on
the ocean and on a sort of peninsula. It really is beautiful, but wish we had
a car so we could just go look. I don't see any place to rent a car and there
are only tours in the summer. Maybe we will make friends with some generous
person who has a car. We had a great chinese dinner last night except for the
dessert. All they had was cheese cake, and it was bordering on moldy. One
can't be too choosy here I guess. I wonder how breakfast will go.

We went to the Kivgik (celebration). I have never seen such opulance in
clothes. Everything is either all fur or trimmed in fur and very colorful.
They don't just dress like this for the Kivqik but also all the time. It is
just that there were so many people there from all the North Slope villages.
They did traditional dances and singing. It was interesting, but we had to
leave as we got too tired. They were scheluded to go on until 1:00AM.

Russ is sick this morning so I am working on the computer. It really isn't that bad here. You just dress for it. I am really glad that
we are doing this. The time is going fast. They want us back next year.
Contracts come out in two weeks and we have about a month to decide. It would
be good for me to have the insurance until I turn 65 and can get medicare. They
will also help us with retirement. It would be nice if we had done this long
enough for a retirement from here, but I am grateful for this opportunity and
Bridger did help me to get a retirement of sorts. I must remember all my
blessings.
